—誰も知らない、ピアノの限界のその先へ。—

「もっとピアニスティックに弾きなさい！」
昔、ピアノのレッスンで何度となくお師匠様に言われた言葉です。

"ピアニスティック"
直訳すれば「ピアノ的な」「ピアノらしい」という意味にでもなるのでしょうか。お師匠様はきっと、もっと豊かな音楽表現を求めて私にそう言ったのでしょう。

でも、ピアノらしさって何でしょう。音域、音量、敏捷性など様々な面において制約から解放されたこの楽器にとって、「らしさ」とは何か。
ピアノの音は美しいです。でも、何も美しい音色を奏でる楽器はピアノだけではありません。ピアノほどではないにしろそれに近い敏捷性、音域を誇る楽器もあります。
この楽器の持つ可能性を、どんな言葉で呈示できるのでしょう。これからこの楽器はどんな音楽を奏でるのでしょうか。
多くの特殊な奏法や、超絶技巧的な楽曲もそんな探究心から生まれてきたものなのではないでしょうか。

従来の奏法や使用法にとらわれず、ピアノの持つ新たな可能性を、私なりに追求してみました。
自分探しの旅ならぬ、「ピアノ探しの旅」の始まりです。

Play more “pianistic”!
— This is what my piano teacher always told me in the lessons when I was young.

“PIANISTIC” ...
it might mean “piano-like” or “suitable for piano” literally.
I believe my teacher wanted richer musical expression from me.

But ... what is “pianistic”? What defines the characteristics of the piano, which is free from various restrictions such as range, volume, and agility?
The sound of the piano is beautiful. However, it is not the only instrument that makes beautiful tones. Some instruments have agility and range that is comparable to the piano, if not the same.
What words reflect the potential of this instrument? And what music will this instrument play in future?
Many extended techniques and transcendental pieces must have been born in such inquiries.

I tried to pursue new possibilities of the piano, free from conventional playing methods and usages.
This is the beginning of self-discovery, i.e. piano discovery.
